Vim Mode & In-Field Editing

Real Vim for the whole web — fields included.

A which-key leader menu, link hints, caret browsing, and NORMAL/INSERT/VISUAL editing inside real inputs — all free, on every plan.

What it does

HotKeyNavigator’s Vim mode is a full keyboard-driven layer for the browser. Press the leader key for a which-key menu of every action, label and reach any element with link hints, and drive a real blinking caret through the page with hjkl, w/b, f-to-char, marks, and jump history. Opt in and you also get true NORMAL/INSERT/VISUAL editing — dw, ciw, yy, dot-repeat, and counts — right inside text fields, including rich editors like the Gmail compose box. A live HUD shows your mode, CapsLock, and pending command.

Everything in Vim mode

  • Which-key leader menu

Press the leader key and a popup lists every follow-up key. Run any saved macro, JS function, deep-link, or sequence by a single key — the command menu teaches itself.

  • Link hints

Press f to label every link, button, and field on screen, then type the label to activate it. F opens links in a new tab; type-to-filter narrows live.

  • In-page search, rewritten

Live highlighting, a 3/12 match counter, and real n/N cycling with smooth scroll. The active match is selected, so y copies it instantly.

  • Caret browsing

Toggle a real, blinking text cursor and move it with hjkl, w/b, 0/$, {/}, gg/G, f-to-char, marks, and Ctrl-o/Ctrl-i jump history — select and yank without the mouse.

  • In-field Vim (opt-in)

NORMAL/INSERT/VISUAL modes inside inputs, textareas, and rich editors like Gmail. Motions, edits (dw, ciw, dd), yank, dot-repeat, and counts — undo-safe with the host app.

  • On-screen HUD

A compact display shows your current mode, a red CapsLock warning, and the pending operator, so multi-key commands are never a mystery.

How it works

  1. Turn it on

Vim mode is free on every plan. Flip it on and navigate with motions and link hints right away.

  2. Go deeper with the caret

Toggle caret browsing for a real cursor, and press the leader key any time to see — and run — everything you’ve mapped.

  3. Opt into in-field Vim

Switch on in-field Vim for NORMAL/INSERT/VISUAL editing inside text boxes. Off by default, so nothing changes until you want it.

Real workflows

  • For developers

Browse internal dashboards from the home row, then fix a config field with ciw and dot-repeat without ever clicking in.

  • For sales & support

Write and rewrite emails right in the Gmail compose box with dw, ciw, and . — and yank a match straight into Clipboard History.

  • For everyone

Every motion, hint key, and mode toggle is remappable and individually disablable, with conflict detection against your shortcuts.
